There are some cities in Russia that… don’t shout about themselves. They don’t pretend that they are tourist capitals. They don’t try to please everyone.
And Torzhok is just like that. And in order not just to “run through the eyes”, but to really feel the city, many choose excursions in Torzhok — they help to see hidden details that you can easily miss.

It is small, very lively, with a beautiful history and the feeling of “real provincial Russia”, where everything is without pretense: old hills, a river, monasteries, wooden houses, golden domes, delicious food and the feeling that you have come to a place, and not to a “landmark”.
This is exactly a chamber town where you can feel everything with your feet and eyes: you’ve walked a couple of streets and already understood the character of the place.
It usually feels like a tourist:
- 1-2 central historical districts
- several strong points (monastery, views, embankment, old streets)
- and a very calm rhythm
It is impossible to “get tired of the city” here — on the contrary, it is like a pause between big plans.
