Until quite recently, the word “sanatorium” evoked quite definite associations in most people. Old buildings, strict daily routine, scheduled medical procedures, a dining room and an atmosphere that has hardly changed for decades.
This is probably why many people still treat sanatorium rest with caution, considering it an option exclusively for older people.
But if you look at what is happening in Sochi today, it becomes clear that this stereotype is gradually becoming a thing of the past.
Projects of a completely different level have appeared here in recent years. They look more like modern European wellness resorts than the usual health resorts. Instead of outdated interiors, there is thoughtful architecture, designer rooms, SPA complexes, restaurants, swimming pools and medical centers with modern equipment. The treatment has not disappeared. It’s just that now it has become a part of a comfortable stay, and not the sole purpose of the trip.
It always seemed to me that this is exactly what a good sanatorium should be. A place where you can get diagnosed, regain your strength, get enough sleep, spend a few days by the sea and return home not only with beautiful photos, but also with the feeling that the body really had time to rest.
